Is that the MoT failure for the car in the signature? And was it on the road up until it failed, or is it a restoration project (well it is now!!! but was it before you took it for a test?)

It sounds like almost every area you can fail for corrosion, you've been failed on - so the car realistically needs a full body restoration. To know if its worth it or not, we'd need to know if there's anything special about the car, etc. So, what's the spec? Is there any sentimental value attached to it?

Can you weld? (I'm guessing not…)

No its not in th sig and yes its the fail… sheets!

Ive wanted a mk1 since I was14ish im 23 now an didnt think to look under the car

The car was on the road and was without an MOT for about a month.

The shell in good condition and it has the spec as follows:
1. 8v
piper cam
lightened pully
lightened flywheel
perfomance spark plugs (triple platnum)
perfomance HT leads
full exhaust system
koni suspension 30mm

its mechanically sound, and im really gutted.

I can weld but not the bet, or though the about needed doin I think I'd end u half decent.

Any Ideas on what to do?

The other thing I can think ofis that the previous owner was getting  dodgy MOt or something?

It seems that the previous owner got a dodgy MoT, but you could never prove it, because you can't conclusively look at a car and say a year ago it would have failed. It depends on the circumstances and what was said when you bought the car (how long ago did you buy it?) whether you have any comeback with the seller. Did he say "sold as seen" or did you ask if it was solid and he said "yes"? etc etc

I'd never sell a car with that many faults, and I'd feel bad about selling a car with MoT but then went on to comprihensively fail the next one. Obviously if there's a few minor faults, that's part & parcel of an old car. So, fair game on the electrical faults, worn ball joint, split CVJ gaitor.

Maybe even the engine is worn? Is it simply out of tune or does it have a more serious issue, to fail the emissions? And how much did it fail by?

What about the history of the car? When did you buy it? Is it your first GTI (what's the one in the sig???) or a 'project' car? Who did you buy it from, and how much? etc etc

12 owners including be, spent most of its time in vbrighton  then 4 years ago the previous owner brought it. He had it for 3 and a half years then wanted to selll it has he doesnt need a car, i brought the car with 6months MOT and for ?500 there was no TAX… and i was told buy his dad that all the floor had been welded.

The Gti is my first and it is also the one in the sig

Hmmm, well you need to look critically at the bodywork/welding required, and make an estimate of how much time/money it will cost to repair. If you have the facilities, and the time, to do it yourself then its probably worth restoration. Otherwise, it would be financially more sensible to break it for parts and find one with a decent bodyshell, maybe in the ?1500-2000 price range. I think its a lesson learnt - don't rely on the MoT as an indication of the quality of the car.

Nope!

What they describe as 'inner' rear right wing, is in fact a panel which sits in the middle. AFAIK the curved panel in the boot, is not available. If you have an area of corrosion around the right rear seat belt mount, its a tricky (but possible) fix to make a curved panel to replace the corrosion. I did it, and I have a thread on here somewhere showing it.

unlucky mate!, that is a hell of alot of corrosion, and im not suprised with it being in brighton near enough all its life! the salt from the sea just rots them.
in all honestly id strip it save the best parts for your self and get another one like paul said and put your best parts on that etc and sell the other parts on.

i always have the last laugh ;)
