Diesel Engined Mk1s?

Yeah, I agree with Bert. Its a blessing in disguise. There's a lot of dodgy sellers out there, its more likely you'll find a clocked car from a private seller than a dealer, these days. eBay is a great place to get away with ripping off people, if you're the dishonest kind.

yeah you guys are more than likely right, he didnt seem too keen on us coming to see the car anyways, was busy all weekend apparently… think i'm gonna leave it til later on in the year and spend as much as i can on a cleaner one. The diesels are a bit hard to come by arnt they!?

i need a diesel really, the 1.1 and 1.3s arnt gonna be very efficient for the type of driving i mainly do (motorways, a-roads) and the GTi's are too expencive with having points from my younger, more immature days of driving  :x

If anyone sees any diesel 3 doors come up for sale, i'd be more than grateful if someone might let me know

Buy a nice clean 1.5 or 1.6 GX or GL and drop a diesel engine in,its really easy,same tank,exhaust,just run live from the old coil to the stop solenoid on t pump,wire a GM glow plug relay in,put diesel in tank or cooking oil if your tight like me  8)  and fire it up,i even left the petrol gearbox in the one i done and it was ace  :wink:

They never did 3 door diesels in the UK (they did on the continent). So if you're after one, you'll need to find a RHD import, or convert a 3 door petrol to diesel. AFAIK the only 3 door big blocks are series 1s or GTIs.

this is the one i was supposed to be seeing today paul, its registered as a 1.6D 3 door with the DVLA, i never thought it might have been converted or imported

This is the guy who couldn't cope with the power of a GTI….hmmm….

nah sorry guys i'm with paul on this one, 3 doors all the way for me!

think the best bet is gonna be to save up more cash until next year or the end of this, and get a 1.6 gti, then insure it on a classic policy in summer when i turn 21

I sold the GTi as it was slow compared to the turbo D i built and cheaper to run when you use it as a work and play toy  :wink: and with a kid seat 5 door is way better for me……

That 3 door diesel's been up on ebay before (quite recently) and was won with 'buy it now' if I remember rightly. Either the winner didn't pay up and it's been put up for sale again, or the buyer didn''t like it for some reason and has put it up for sale? Like you say, a bit dodgy. Hope you get your ideal mk1 soon. P.S - if you are lucky enough to find a Golf diesel van you could always put glass in the back and make it into a 3door hatch, seen that before. 'Jukes' on here might still have his 1.5d van for sale? In Ireland though :
