Looking for a mk1 at the minute and looking into which engine to put in it,

really would like to have a go at the 20v turbo.

Which other conversions are there to do. ??

Looking for some decent bhp.

seen a few have done the 20v turbo just wondered how much it costs to under go.

20v conversion copsts depends on what tpye of engine you want (engine code) coupled with turbo setup (OEM or aftermarket) along with how much you are going to do yourself, if you're starting with a GTI or not etc etc. I would budget a fair few ££ though mate as things can get out of hand once you start especially if you're anything like me

That's what I'm guessing by reading your build thread mate, am going to start with a gti, was going to stay with oem but was looking for around 200 bhp, goin to have a go at it myself. , not sure on engine code is that a major thing ?   Thanks

I went for the AGU engine code conversion but some go for the BAM engine from the Audis as these came with the KO4 turbo I think mate which means 225bhp as standard.

I have since changed my turbo for a KO4 but there's extra costs associated with the turbo lines to make it work. I then changed the manifold for an aftermarket one

The AGU came with a KO3 turbo as standard giving 150bhp as standard and other engines had the KO3s which had 180bhp IIRC. both can be modded the latter to about 220bhp from memory.

Sounds like il be looking for the AGU then. How much have you spent engine wise if you don't mind me asking.

It doesn't have to be an AGU mate. I think there's an AUQ, APY, BAM and a few others that went into the Seat, VW MK4 Golf and the Audi too. They're pretty much the same.

As for my engine I have spent £500 on a KO4 and relentless manifold with Genesis injectors, £120 on new oil and water lines for turbo and odds and sods like new rocker cover etc etc.

Not to bad then really. Suppose I could use standard AGU then have it re-mapped to 180/200.  Or would I not get that much from it ?  Did you have to buy mounts etc.  is it much trouble fitting.

Yes mounts are needed and are readily available on eBay and sometimes on here and other related forums.

Standard AGU turbo can go to about 190 odd bhp I think :) but most go for the KO3s

Ok thanks smudger, goin to have to do some research I think as of where the ko3s turbo comes from etc.  cheers mate

The mk4 GTI anniversary had 180BHP guessing thats a KO3s turbo on that one then

Also I think some of the Audi a4 1.8T's had 180bhp too.

I'm pretty sure the KO3 = 150bhp and the KO3s has 180bhp as standard.

The seat leon cupra runs the auq engine with ko3s turbo and pushes out 180bhp.  I've got one which I'm hoping to use as a donor car. Apologies for thread hijacking but when you upgraded to the ko4 turbo did you still run the standard ecu or did you go down the aftermarket route ? Cheers

Yes mate still running VW ECU with deimmob. Will be having her mapped when she is roadworthy to make her run sweet :)
