bumpers or no bumpers?!?

Wow, and there was me thinking this just a stage some daily restos got to until they're bumpers were sorted! Its a good look although not to my taste, no bumpers does compliment the car well. i'd just be worried about having a knock etc. would rather replace a bumper than a panel, but just my 2 pence! :D

Like your car mixerman, reminds me of my first golf, that was a gambia red red Golf c to! I did rock the bumperless for a while as well. I put them back on eventually though!

mixerman, spoons here is the silk mercer, in there every now and then, mainly for breakfast, so you may see it parked around there when the sun start to shine.

and slammage wise.

Just drop it alot.

Aha.

Its good…..

minus speed bumps, potholes and dodgey country lanes.

even though the country lanes are so good for other reasons :)

i supose really its, do you want to spend all that money on a car to go and take your arches out with your hundred pound tyres, whilst scraping/denting your sill you spend months trying to get nice and not rusty etc etc….

But, they do look so good its insane.

if youve got 13s youve got to go alot more than 60mm … ahaha.

all the way, is the only way :)

yeah got to agree with ftj!

Mines on 13's and slammed 100mm or so, theres no worries on the tyres scrubbing the arches even with a car full as the helper springs have been taken off the rear coilovers to stiffen it up :)

The problem you do have tho, is wishbones and bottom gearbox mount tend to hit just about every dip or lump in the road and as for speed bumps you can feel the floor pan under your feet going over the bump.

Mates keep asking me if i'm worried what damage it could be doing but i just turn my music up and pretend it doesnt happen for now

ahaha….

That feeling is horrid and it does make you worry yourself but you get over it after a little while.

Ahaha, your car should be fairly low then, i want my helpers out but then id kill my sills even more.

aha.

also bump steer gets a bit hectic if its fully low.

but either way, im still looking for alot of way to get it lower.

Cant you relocate the points were your top mounts meet, this should technically make you lower without the stiffness etc…

but i do like a bouncy slamoed dub :)

Anyone made little gurderd on their cars, mates dad had a mini which was pretty much on the floor, had put some little gurders underneath it so it scraped on them instead, weight but… save money in the long run..

yeah you could move the whole suspension mounts up by cutting and re welding, thats commitment to lowering your car   I dont no what other things you would also have to move if you did that tho, like would the whole subframe need moving up abit too? That would give you more engine clearance i guess. If thats even possible, i'm not very technically minded

ive seen some replacement top mounts which lower your car an addtional 10 mm not quite sure how.

I'm not too worried about weight in a 1.1L its hardly quick in the first place :) haha but yeah i've wondered about getting some plates made up but its just how to attach them to the car in a way that means they won't come off when they take a few hits.

lol soz i havnt been on for a while, virgin have fucked up my net so im doin this from work

yeah 60mm isnt enough but i dont really wanna go any further until i find a nice set of wheels and then mould the stance round them. currently running on steels and i find myself hanging my head in shame when ever i pass another mk1 :P
but moneys tight and im picky :P

i got people to help me with the bike carbs tho so that may be next months project, also im half way through sortin the rusty bits.

i thought my golf was in good nick and i got most the service history… not the part where she hit someone and fucked up the passenger wing, front panel, door and drivers door?!? its also had a dust over in the wrong red so after tee cutting it i found in the light i got three diffrent shades on one panel…
so im thinkin i need a couple of new panels and then i need to get my compressor repaired :D

any way yeah, no bumpers it has been for the past month and i like it, it does need to go lower, new wheels and space them, stretch them and then drop it again :)

booze and boredom, the greatest mix :)
