16v wur mod

Is the 16v wur mod worth doing and if so how many mpg are you doing?

Yes it is worth doing if your engine is running lean higher up the rev range as it allows you to tweak the control pressure and hence the air fuel ratio and give a little more bhp.
The 16V WUR also has a vacuum takeoff that allows it to detect negative pressure in the plenum chamber, this happens if you flaw the throttle quickly, during this very short period the control pressure is altered to give a richer mixture. This is only really good if you pair the 16V WUR with a throttle body with the larger second butterfly.
Note that the cold and hot control pressures of the 16V WUR are not good for the MK1 engine, so you will require a pressure gauge to set it up regardless.
mpg difference will be negligable.

thanks for the quick reply.

does the wur need to be positioned away from the engine block?

No,it needs to be bolted to it. It is the heat from the engine that causes the bimetallic strip inside it to bend which alters the control pressure. There is also an electrical connection that speeds up the heating process by the use of a resistor wrapped around the bimetal strip.

Hi, I know this is an old post, but if the resistence of the resistor is too low- 12.9, is there any way of buying a new one instead of replacing the whole WUR unit?
