What I suspect has happened is that the volt meter works because it doesn't need a sender, it's simply connected to a circuit thats live when the ign is on.
The oil temp and pressure need separate senders that often dont get fitted, esp when using the 3 gauges robbed from an Audi dashboard as people forget the senders or they're already gone or the engines been removed.
You need to get hold of senders that match your guages, ie 0-5 Bar or 0-10 Bar. These are not cheap so another reason they never get fitted. Note for the pressure sender you'll prob need a sender that also replaces the switch for the oil prrssure warning system unless your engine has 2 spare outlets or you use a splitter to fit both senders into one outlet.
Wiring is pretty straightforward and you should be OK extending the illumination from the one thats already wired in.

As you said the switch on the filter housing is a on/off switch not an anologue sender for a guage.
The filter housing usually has some blanked off outlets that can be used.
I think the stuff you are looking at are switches and senders used by the Kjet system and not oil pressure/temp senders.
This looks a good write up

Thanks early, so with the oil pressure is that taken from the oil pressure switch on top of the oil filter housing or else where, and with the oil temp is it a sender mounted to the side of the head, just so I know if I'm looking at the right places and regarding the gauges again what is a know difference when physically looking at and Audi 80 and a original golf gauge, thanks again early,

Thanks early, I remember few years ago the buzzer used to sound and oil light on the dash illuminated so I changed that switch on top of the housing, so mine being a 82 1.6 GTI wouldn't of had gauges which makes me think someone has added them after wards which could explain why the wiring ain't been done properly, I seen T Pieces that you put where the switch is and then run the wire to the gauge and still retain the switch and the original wire on the T Piece,Early-1800 said
If yours is a S2 '82 1.6 it won't have guages or MFA or wiring as standard. The Audi guages have red/orange needles and sylized lettering, S1 standard gauages dont.
