Post

Hello, looking for advice on removing the rear tail window of a mk1 hatch without breaking chrome or seal? Also a way of disconnecting the heating element of it.

Thank you in advance

The rear defroster is held on with 2 insulated spad connectors, you can pry them off with a screw driver be gentle .

To remove the rear window, and chrome trim, you can use a remover tool,  to remove the chrome trim.  That is at the bottom of the trim there is a over lap, remove that and you can get the edge of the chrome and gently pull it out.  If your seal is good, then I suggest that you spray some wd-40 between the seal and the frame inside and out.  Carefully let it work a minute or 3.
Carefully insert a screw driver under the lip of the bottom and pry it off the steel and work your self around the window….

I DO BELIEVE THERE IS A YOU-TUBE VIDEO on how to remove it.  It is similar to the rear window of a Cabriolet.

Some folks just cut the old one off at the rear, and use a new seal going back  (they sell the seal with or without the chrome trim.).

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.
