Rough sunday for me😳 pulled out the injectors and tried fitting the pluggs i bought, it goes easy the first round then it start getting harder and harder…. Looks like i gotta try to order some diffrent ones.  FEDBFBB2-9250-4507-9143-1383C921F3CA.jpeg

Next problem is the oil cooler, the new engine used to have a oil cooler, but my car dosent have one. Do i need one or can i run whitout it?

I dont know the name of the thing marked as number 1 on the picture, on my old engine there is a mechanical fuel pump here, but on this engine its something else for the injection system. What should i do whit this? Im gonna run biker carbs whit a motorcycel pump so i guess its not needed? 🤔

Think item 1 is a warm up regulator or something for fuel injection I think. I pulled mine off and there was a backing plate that covered a hole in the block.  I cleaned up the plate and put in a new set of bolts and also o-ring behind the plate. My carbs don't need it.

Also when I put my injector plugs in I ran them in with silicone
gasket sealer. You don't want to damage the threads or you will be in a world of hurt.

No idea what item 2 is my car didn't have that. Old style old cooler maybe??

As Shubbs said, 1 is the warm up regulator, you don't need it.
2 is the oil filter take off designed to run with an external oil cooler. You can buy the external coolers and pipes if you want to use it. Here: https://www.classic-vw.co.uk/mk1-golf-gti-oil-cooler-kit-5356-p.asp
Although that kit doesn't come with the bracket for the oil cooler. Not sure what other options you have. I know later cars and mk2 gti's had a water cooled cooler but you need pipe work for that and the right oil filter take off.

If you k-jet bits are in reasonable condition you'll probably be able to sell them and make some cash back.

Thank you! I guess ill buy the cooler you linked and make my own bracket, maybe you have a picture of where in the engine bay its normally placed? Couldnt find any good pictures on google..

Here's a pic of my plugs installed defo look smaller. Just for ref. And the injectors that were on my car were the "85 onwards" type the third injector down the list.

Paceman, interesting info on the separate oil cooler, mine came with the oil cooler sandwiched between oil filter and the flanged filter holder on the block with the sensors. I believe the separate oil cooler you mention possibly mounts at the front next to the radiator? I wonder if it's because my car is AC car and the condenser is there next to the radiator. Maybe UK / euro cars had separate oil cooler because no ac system in that spot? Don't know ….

Little update on this prosject and some more questions.

I bought the kit whit 4 bike carbs and intake,(i know now i should of bought webers insted)  but i got really frustrated because now the exhaust dosent fit at all, i dont understand why everything has to be so difficult when it comes to older cars…..

anyways i drop some pictures, and as you can see the exhaust manifold dosent fit at all, is it normal to have to cut out so much from the manifold to make it fit? or have they sent me the wrong intake adapter? i think its very bad fitted intake, blocks alot. im really lost here…

My Webber DCOE 45s fit straight on. That being said there is a specific order in which they fit on otherwise there was no way I could tighten up the exhaust manifold nuts or the intake manifold either. I had to do mine in a particular order. If I right it was in this order but my thread on those is on this website somewhere too.

  1. install exhaust headers
  2. install Webber intake manifold (which impedes access to exhaust nuts)
  3. lastly install Webber's DCOEs

I couldn't get access to the header nuts with the Webber's on the manifold so had to take them off my manifold to be able to install the manifold and the headers. Total pain really but it's done now so it is what it is you know.

Also BIG thing to check is your access between your bike carbs and the firewall bulkhead of the car. My Webber's fit it but they are obviously facing the firewall with little shorty trumpets. You might want to check your clearance to your firewall also.
