1991 1.8 Convertible Clipper

Hi Guys,

I pick my Golf up on Sunday and can't wait!.  It's been sat for a while so am going to do a major service on her to make sure she's s spot on.  I was wondering where to buy a workshop manual for her.  I have no knowledge of these cars but have done timing belts etc on others so can pick things up easily.

Not sure what engine type she has etc or if this matters.

Any help or pointers would be fantastic.

Looking forward to many happy years of motoring with her.

the best one to get is the later borwn mk1 haynes manual, the one that says MK1 golf and also cabrio and scirocco on it :)

yeah these manuals only do the cabrio up to 85, but it still has just about everything you need to know in it still. I don't think it covers the digifant injection, but its rare to see that and even if you do have it theres plenty info about on various forums

not sure if it covers the clipper kit either, though its not like theres much you need to know really.

Here is the Cabriolet version (not a lot on Carbed engines) up to 93 DIgifant.

I have the Haynes and Chiltons, but I use the Chiltons mainly for the Privy.

Just to let you know, I used only a Haynes for the wrong years (bought 81 Golf Diesel LS, Haynes at the time went to 80) to repair my Diesel for over 20yrs and 330K plus miles or for you over a half a million kilometers.n
So Haynes is good, Bentley is the best.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

I use the brown early golf one for the body on the car and a Mk2 Scirocco manual (a red one) for engine, running gear, fuelling and exhaust as the Mk2 Scirocco uses the same floor pan and I have a injection system in my car.
The early brown golf manual seems to more indepth than later manuals.

I've got both the later brown haynes which covers the cab and the bently shown above, they are both about the same in terms of awesomeness, just the bentley has extra info for the digi engien and clipper kit mainly.

I also have the mk2 gofl haynes, which is utter garbage when compared to the awesome brown mk1 haynes :(

basically if you can get a bentley and you have a kjet injection engine, thats all you need. if you have a carb engine, its got nothing in it for this so go for the haynes.

wiring diagrams are great in both, obviously the bentley is more US specific so it wont be 100% correct on a euro spec. but then the haynes diagrams dont cover the very late models which have some subtle differences. nothing too earth shattering there though all the basics are covered.
