Front brake upgrade

Post

I was bleeding my brakes today and found my front driverside bleed nipple is rusted and rounded looking at the brakes they don't look like they are upgraded I have a citi with a mk2 kr 16v lump with twin Webber 45s. Could someone point me in the right direction of a affordable upgrade as changing the caliper but would like a bit more braking force as I live in Cornwall and drive back roads every day

I can't help with the brakes but we have many members who can provide sound advice on that subject as well as anything else about a Mk1! 👍🏼

Cheapest / easiest is probably fitting g60 280 mm discs and brackets to move standard  caliper out, makes a small difference. Then same discs but g60 calipers (can be expensive) and adaptor brackets. Theres a conversion using Vauxhall parts , also mk2 golf 256mm (I think) discs, but caliper carriers hard to find. Some conversions require 14 inch and some 15 inch wheels. Also larger calipers require a larger m/cylinder,  all the info is on here somewhere I'm sure.

looks like you already have a mk2 servo and master cylinder on it. would be a good idea to see what size master cylinder you have as some are 20mm and others 22mm. you can also fit the t4 25mm master cylinder I found this with decent discs and pads the standard callipers stop ok.

where in cornwall are you? I am down in penzance

just as it is something to look up, the polo 256mm callipers and discs bolt right up, I cannot find the thread at the moment, but I have them on mine. Nice little additional change. Again mine is bolted up to the 16v servo.
Just cannot remember the model year of polo, want to say mk3, but would like to be corrected.

As a side note a thread of interest for you:
