Timing belt tensioner fitting issues?!!

Post

Doing a timing belt on my mk1 Gti, and for the life of me cant fit the tensioner on as it fouls the inside where the engine mount is. Ive bought two which on the adver said it was 20mm thick and 72mm dia, turns out theyre both 25 mm thick. I think if it were 20mm thick it may just get on the stud thats on the engine without the tensioner fouling the mount. Are there any smaller OD tensioners available? Or do i have to remove and replace the pulley mounting bolt at the same time. Thanks for any info

If your right side motor mount is bad the Tensioner may have issues with fitment, at least on my 1.5 and 1.8 did.

I had to jack the engine up on the pan to get it off, changed the mount, and had to replace the tensioner stud as it was bent.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

No mate you dont understand. I cant get the tensioner on. I need to release the engine mount and jack up the engine as mentioned in another reply. Nothing to do with what direction im tensioning. But thanks for the input
