Ticking noise, stuttering engine

Just started up my mk1 cabby from the winter and noticed a ticking noise and the engine is stuttering. Does this sound ok ( see video)?

Often a sticky tappet after a long period out of use, run it up and take it for a spin ✳️👍🏽

Took it for a spin but still sounds off. Hmm
 

for really bad fouled lifters I use about 1 cup of Seafoam Engine Treatment added to my oil for at least one oil change.

I think your best bet is to do a compression test and see what that shows, don't forget to open the throttle while you're doing it like I did.

Might do a compression test since have no clear idea what's acting up. 

When was it last serviced with new plugs, HT leads, dissy cap and rotor arm, new oil and filter etc?

Hmm spark plugs about a year ago, oil and filter maybe two years.

Your oil and oil filter needs changing as soon as possible, 12 months or 10,000 miles is when engine oil should be changed, this may help with the tapping noise as a noisy tappets is a sign that the oil need changing.
10w 40 semi synthetic oil is what you need to use.

Give it a good service and check the spark plugs, after a year they should be fine but when was the dissy cap, rotor arm and HT leads last changed?

Not sure might be time to replace those as well 

I still think it's a sticky tappet, cured by a good old blast down the road , let it idle until up to temperature and then drive it on a good long blast. Don't forget to smile!

A compression test will at least eliminate any serious issues, so a good starting point.

Turned out to be bad connection on the dizzy cap, now it runs ok though when doing a quick accelerating it stuttering a bit and you have to let go of the gas before continuing accelerating like there's not enough gas coming through.

Yep that's my next step

Just an update that after changing rotor, plugs, wires and cap it has been running great. The new starter seems to have fixed the issues with not starting. Been driving all summer with ease
