Starting and hot running Trouble
Potential problem
1. Engine starts from cold , seems to warm up to temperature quicker than should(I ve been running newer diesel cars for a long time so might be normal). Temperature gauge needle sits in the middle while driving but as soon as you hit traffic or leave ticking over the needle starts to rise quickly then fan cuts in at about 3/4, is this normal ? I'm going on a run with a large climb shortly and don't want to cook it! I'm loosing no coolant. Any advice on checks to do would be appreciated.
2. Engine starts from cold and hot nicely but park for 10 minutes after being out on a run and it just cranks over for 30 to 40 seconds, done at m.o.t station and mechanic said it sounded like it was flooded. Engine seems to run fine otherwise.
Any help as to where to start would be great.
Thanks .

The hot start issue is common, if you do a search on here you'll find plenty of posts about it. Most likely cause is a loss of residual pressure that can be caused by a failed fuel accumulator or bad non return valve on the fuel pump. Both these devices are designed to maintain fuel pressure in the system for about 20 mins after the engine has been turned off preventing the fuel in the injector lines from vaporising.

If you don't have an upper radiator card, then the fan can pull engine compartment air back over the radiator core and cause a bit more temp. The upper radiator card is really a good thing to have installed. www.cabby-info.com has a template to make a new one.
