Sportline info....

Post

Hey Guys
Been a long time since I've been on this website but i've just bought myself a black sport line, I had one 16 years ago and always loved them.
But my question to anyone in the know……..does it hurt the re sale price if the car doesn't have it's original engine and gearbox??
I've spent a load of money putting everything back to standard and sorting the brakes, suspension and adding a power steering kit…as well as loads of other mechanical little niggles, so is a fantastic car now!!

Cheers
Jim

Not to me it doesn't, to a Purest probably,  Who cares they are snobbish anyways… :)  all in fun guys.

Automatics, and Power steering make it possible over here to sell it to White Haired little old ladies and Teenie Bobbers that can't drive a manual.

Or Old farts like I that have physical limitations on using a clutch…but want a Vintage Ride.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

When you say "original engine and gearbox" do you mean the lump it came out of the factory with and then swap it for another 1.8 DX engine or swap it for something else like a 20Vt from a Mk4 Golf or VR6 etc...?

1988 Mk1 Golf GTi Cabriolet 1.8cc DX, K-jet. Daily drive. 317,000 miles and counting
1978 Mk1 Scirocco GLS 1.6cc FR, Webber carb. Weekend toy.

Depends on the engine if its standard 1.8,dx, as it came then no issue. As engine failures can occur. So would be change out anyway. If it abf kr or mk4 engine, then some will argue ,but since newer engines are more reliable, more power, then have to pay for and install, then I'd still argue fair asking price.  You can always get a DX and box,  cheap. And sell as kit. Obviously with engine change logbook should be updated. So should read sportline, with whatever engine number is now.

On the drive
T25 Diesel…sameoldblueshiŁ (currently under resto)
Rocco gt2….1990 secret 2…(currently under resto)
Mk4 99 1.8t indigo blue Gti with 43k miles
Caster 93 clipper JH Green cabby
Snowy 91 GTi White cabby( sat waiting for inspiration)
Myvalver 89 GTi Grey mk2 16v
Yuppy Flu 91 GTi Flash Red Sportline

ha….I hear your actually prefer without the power steering, but we live in London and my wife wants to drive….and trust me trying to do a 3 point turn in the road would be a nightmare!!!

Yes I meant not the original from the factory…
Well, I've just found out it has the original gearbox..but doesn't have the original engine apparently has a 3a code engine from a 88-90 Audi …..

Right thanks for that…I have told my insurance the engine is different..but I will have to sort the logbook out…any ideas how I go about that??

Where are you finding the engine number?
It should be stamped into the engine block just below cylinder 3 spark plug.

You see the slight differences in the engine design in this thread..

I'm not finding it mate…richard at crazy quiffs has it and has told me what engine….but the link you sent me looks like the engine he said it was…..so at least I know it's a decent thing to do to them!!
The biggest Issue I will have in the future is the emissions zone in London….they are extending it to the north and south circle….so I would either have to pay 15 quid a day to drive it…sell it…or somehow put a newer engine that passes the emissions test…then somehow get it tested and validated!!!! Painful…….
