Rear brake lines 89 cabby

Post

My 1989 Cabby GTi failed an MOT on the rear brake flexi hoses, unfortunately they are seized solid and the  brake flare nuts are now rounding.
Can you buy a full kit for the hoses front to rear (correct length and fittings) or should i be looking at getting new items made?

You can buy pre-made lines. I Specifically wanted stainless brakes lines for my cabriolets and to buy those kits is super expensive. So I went a different route. I bought marine grade stainless tube (25ft) rolls of 3/16" and then bought the nuts separately and then made up my own lines. It's fairly easy to do just time consuming and takes patience to make them and bend them to same shape as old ones. You would also need a flaring tool, straightening tool, bending tool to do everything. I bought all on Amazon. Bought a more expensive flaring tool and benders because reviews for the cheaper ones stated they were not good for stainless. Biggest cost was the tools. But I will use it more than once so worth while for me. I have several cars to do. I also bought the premade stainless braided hoses. They are cheap.

Im in USA so might be different in UK.

Also don't use a normal spanner on brake line fittings, get some crows feet spanners or brake line spanners.

Crows feet are great for working near the rear beam if it's still on the car as you can use an extension bar on a ratchet to get to them.

Spanners like this, can't remember the sizes you need so may be cheaper to just buy the ones you need.
