MK2 Polo Clocks into a MK1 Clipper

Post

Hi folks, just a quick one…I have a 1992 1.8 Clipper and the speedo needle has snapped off. It's snapped off right at the base, so supergluing it back on isn't really an option. I've taken the clocks out and have messed around and can fashion a new speedo needle, but to be honest, anything short of new clocks is going to be a bodge. Googling MK1 clocks, I came across a thread that suggested that MK2 Polo Clocks would be a straight swap into a MK1. My question is: can anybody confirm this before I go and source MK2 Polo Clocks? They seem to be more readily available than MK1 Clocks and although I'd be stuck with a 'tell the time' clock instead of a rev counter, I can live with it - I just don't want to have to go modifying anything or fettling the speedo cable etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

If Mk2 polo clocks will fit then Mk3 polo clocks will definitely fit, probably more likely to work as the mk3 was 1990-94

Get some GT clocks and you'll be able to get a rev counter as well

Thanks for the reply. I think I'll try and hold out for some proper MK1 clocks - maybe stick a post in the wanted section. Thanks.

the polo mk2 clocks do fit yes, but the trouble is they are all small block so have a slightly different speedometer calibration. you can user non-gti mk1 clocks if you only need the speedometer though, there is a blanking plate over the speed sensor hole you just poke that out and away you go

Thanks for the advice - I only just saw this as have been on holiday all week. I managed to source for MK1 clocks in the end so have sorted it now.
