MK1 golf clipper

Can anyone help me I brought my girlfriend a j plate mk1 clipper but it has a 1,9 diesel engine fitted and sounds like an ice-cream van she used to drive,  what engine can I get that will fit, finding it hard to get the 1.8 from a mk1 clipper as not many left and they are all £1500 plus on ebay.. …many thanks if you get the time to answer.

Can we have a look at the engine please? If it's been converted then I'd guess at a PD motor with a turbo. If so it should be quick and reasonably quiet!

If it's a horrible early 1.6 type one then just burn the car to the ground instead! (just joking)
