Engine Not Firing Up

I have just had the car running for 20 mins while i changed the engine oil.
I had the car on the ramps to lift the frnt end up.
I changed the oil and rolled the car backwards of its own accord down the ramp.
Topped the oil up to the correct level.
I went to start the car to take it for ablast, and the car just turns over not firing up.
i had a quick look and found a spade end terminal stuck on the its connecting point but no wire attaced.
i took  a picture after i half stuck it back.
Does anyne know what it is called and would the stop it from starting.
It is the yellow wire in the pictures with the spade end terminal

Hi Paul, I think that is the oil temperature sender? Not 100% sure though. On my car it has a green/black wire going to it.

If you look at the picture you can see where it has been joined to the green black wire so hose it's the oil temperature sensor wiring. It should not affect the car starting so I would be looking somewhere else.
Spark and fuel would be my next move….

You had the car running for 20 minutes while you changed the oil?   Wouldn't the engine lock up? :)I would double check all the connections to the Diz, and Coil.  I would validate that I didn't knock off a loose wire on the Diz or disconnect something…..

Other wise, check for spark at the HV leads to one of the plugs.  So you know it is getting spark.

Then you are down to fuel or air.

You might want to validate the timing is still on, as that will but a wrench in the works.  As the Golfs and Cabriolets are non-interference engines I have broken teeth on a timing belt and it sure wouldn't start out of time.  (Diesels are a Interference engine and you would hear massive metal breakage if you broke a timing belt.

I have at one time or another on my 90's forgot to plug in the MAF, it looked connected but wasn't and I have squeued the Diz cap, and that caused a no start.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.
