Post

Hi all, seen a few people say they have fitted a Mk3 AGG bottom end into their Mk1. My question is do any of the engine mounts need altering and what blanking kit are needed for the breather blank, and anything else that I may need? Thanks for any help. Dom

I'm not sure what an AGG is but I put a 2E in a MK1 a few years back, I made the blanking plate and bought the distributor ring from TSR but if you know anyone with a lathe they could probably make one. The threaded holes for the mounts were there.

The whole conversion cost under £100, that's including the cost of the block, £20, I did about 50000mls with it and it was still dead smooth and didn't burn a drop of oil when I sold it.

I used an Audi 2 ltr tall block which i am guessing is the same.  Made my own breather plate and distributor ring, and i seem to recall i had to swap the cog over on the bottom of the distributor as different sizes..

Thanks for the help, I have access to a machine shop so can turn one easily. Any idea on the dimensions ie the thickness? What cam belt did you use a mk2 or 3 or is there no difference?

Araid i dont remember, it was a good 25 years ago.. I also used the mk3 gti gearbox which i think gave 23mph per 1000 revs in 5th opposed to the mk1 box which gives 19 mph if i remember correctly.. Made it good on the motorway.
