help required, can someone point me in the right direction

Post

Hi all, new to the forum. I have tried looking for answers to the below questions but I'm not forum Savy enough to find the answers … yet. if anyone could point me in the right direction of this information or help me out it would be much appreciated.

I have a mk1 Caddy 1.6 petrol.its a bit of a frankenstien i think

firstly the brake compensator seems to have gone, Ive been trying to source a replacement part but not having any luck. I have found some space info that a mk2 compensator can be adapted to fit. if this job has been done could someone point me to the thread so i can learn what to buy and how to do it.

the previous owner also installed a 5 speed box. now when i was under the car i found the plate with the numbers 4T 27060 with 2 underneath. i like the idea of this box but its been bodged. the linkage is utter utter urine. I have seen some kits but id like to talk to someone who has done this job to ensure I'm buying the correct parts. further to this is looks like the correct gearbox mount has been installed.

any help would be much appreciated. if any other information is required just ask and ill try grab it !

thanks

Sorry but can't help with brake compensator as my cabriolet has a different set up.

4T gearbox is the one with a big 5th gear so low revs at motorway speeds.

Gear linkage guide to have a read, you need to click on the link at the bottom of the page to see the next page..

superb, thank you Mark. the current set up is like a bag of potatoes and your lucky if you get it into gear.

Have a good look at what's there and most of the time you can see or feel which bushes are worn or most likely missing.
As sometimes you just need to replace the bushes near the gearbox and not mess to much with the gear stick.

Sometimes you just need this type of kit.

Or you may need to do the whole lot or somewhere in between as there's lots of kits out there.

My brother in law has a caddy and had the same issue with the load compensator.

He's used one from a caddy van. It's adjustable so hopefully it'll work. We haven't tried it yet though!
