The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Hi all, I have a 1991, GTI Cabriolet 1.8. It's a 5 speed gear box and wanted to know which linkage kit is suitable for mine as I have seen quite few with extra bits and some just with bushes and rubbers. Sorry for hi jacking the post. Thanks in advance.

Just make sure that you get a 5spd kit. It is different than a 4spd. all the links and bushes and rubber bits are usually needed to be replaced… a tad of grease on the inside of the cup makes it smoother.

I've just done the 5 speed linkage with a kit of rods and bushes. Much better. I've ended getting stuck in the middle of the 4 speed linkage refurb. I got a comprehensive kit! The circlip on the gear lever spread so I've had to get one of those. The rubber under the gear lever, under the car, had split badly so I've had to order one of those as well. So it's up on ramps at the moment waiting.
