Was the 1.8 engine in the campaign the same as the non campaign 1.8 car?

1.8 is 1.8 the differences are is it CIS,Digi, or Carbed stating the year of the car would of been a big help

Assuming both GTis, yes I think so it had the same DX code. The Campaign had slightly different ratio gear box and 14inch alloys which I think were being trailed for use in the soon to be released Mk2 GTI

My car is a 1984 gti 1.8 Campaign, it had a donor 1.8 gti engine, just wondered if the 1.8 gti engine was a stock item?

DX engine code for 83 and 84 mk1 gti, I think early mk2 gti is an EV engine code.

Yes unless the 1.8 dx is from a later car as they had hydraulic lifters

Yes same engines as i have an 83 Gti and an 83 Campaign im restoring, both same DX engines

VW did slightly change the 1.8 DX engine over the years it was used upto 1992 in the Cabriolet.

Hydraulic tappets 84 ish
Air shroud fuel injectors also fitted late 80s

but other than that they are the same engine block.

Are you swopping over the whole engine or just the engine block and keeping your original head?

Post up some pictures of the replacement engine as we may be able to tell you more about it, you do need to remove the rocker cover to see the camshaft to see what type of tappets are fitted.
