Uk car need 10W 40 semi synthetic oil and use a good quality oil filter, MANN or genuine VW are the ones to use.

Oil I've been using in my 1988 GTi cabriolet for many years and approximately 200,000 miles.

Just don't use Jean Erik filters, stay away from Store Branded, Bosch, or Fram.

Known good ones that I have used that didn't give me the blinky light from Hades are:

STP
Mobile1
Mann
Mahl
Genuine VW
Pureolator GOLD
Napa Gold
WIX

I personally have run 10W40 or 20W50 in all my 4 bangers since I was 13yrs old except for my 81 Golf Diesel, which was 10w30 CC/CD.  Never an issue, but then again I used only WIX filters.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.
