Thick Pink cable rear of engine

Hi all,

Finally found some time to start working on Cabrio, today I fitted, with relative ease and a few good pointers from my step dad on timing marks etc… a new distributor, lead, plugs, coil and ICM. Fired up perfectly first time, just needed a small tweak of the distributor once running. However when the new coil was fitted 93C27211-F6D8-4DCA-BC6D-D69DA48ACC93.jpeg  I noticed a cable near to the coil which connected through with a white connector that appears to be defective/melted? one side of the connector is a thicker  gauge pink cable the other a thicker gauge red/white, I managed to strip the cable insulation back chop out the damaged section and re-terminate. Nothing seems effected with the car so I assume the termination has done the job. Could someone please give me a heads up what this cable does/is for and what could have caused the original damage?

Thanks guys!

It's for the inlet manifold heater element or also known as the hedgehog.
