1.8 GTI Rear exhaust

Hi, whats correct rear exhaust silencer on golf mk1 1.8 gti '83? round or oval silencer? 171253609P or 171253609A?

On tin tops round for 1.6 and oval for 1.8, although think either will fit.

i have bought the oval one, and this will fit, but is it the right one...? i want know whats the correct one..

On my 92 Cabby, I have had oval, and round, both sounded the same.  Both worked the same.

anyone know whats the original pipe size on 1.8 gti??

A round silencer would have been original on a 1983 1.8 tintop. I think also on a 1983 Cabby.

Oval pipe for an 83 1.8. Bosal were the only ones available as far as I'm aware and as close to OEM as you'll get. . Try GSF. Tin tops had a straight tail pipe and the later cabby ones had a bend in them to accommodate the big bumper I imagine.
