-89 Cabrio installing mk2 rear axel, fuel tank replasing with what?

-89 cabrio, installing mk2 rear axel with brake pressure regulator.
Seems like that in my car fuel tank (last part of it) comes over exhaust pipe and there is not enough room for brake pressure regulator.

I´ve seen pictures where brake pressure regulator has been installed in hard top (mk1 golf), in it´s own axel but in there fuel tank doesn´t come over exthaust pipe.
Hard top fuel tank doesn´t fit (so I have been told) cause  floor plan shape is different for the two tanks.

Which tank fits?
Maybe from older cabrio? Does filling pipe fit?
I don´t know how much there is difference between older cabrio and this "facelifted" (Karmann big bumber).

I´m swapping KR with double carbs, bigger stroke and FSI pistons, hope it´ll be near 2000cc and 200bhp..

Do you mean mk2 golf complete rear axle, don't think it will fit, they have a wider track.  As for brake pressure regulator, I believe the cabriolets have little doobris/thingys actually on the master cylinder.

Some have the proportional valves on the Axle (cabriolets) early ones as well as some later golfs.
The changed over @ 86 to having them on the master cylinders in opposing corners of the MC.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

yes more info is needed, pics? mk2 beams dont fit without choppy choppy, weldy weldy.

mk2 bias valve can be fitted if you make a simple bracket up, can be a cheaper way to replace the original beam mounted valve.

later cabs have bias valves on the MC as said, these are fine to leave as is.

basically there are 3 'types'/ of tank. pre-84 carb, pre-84 gti/diesel with fuel pump feed on the bottom, and post-84 cabrio/scirocco which is the same for all models.

there may be other variants I've missed, but these are the main 'shape' if you get me.  I am reasonably sure that the older tank will fit a later shell if you have all the straps etc to go with it. pre-84 carb is ok if you have the lifter pump and swirl pot setup from a post-84 cab/rocco GTI to fit to it. G40 shape polos all have these as well.

I´ve compared mk1 and mk2 axels and you are right, mk2 wheelbase is wider.
I think it´s easier to continue with original axel, just have to add that bracket for brake pressure valve.

heres my build thread its got pics of the bracket I made:
View topic: Project 83 MK1 cabby, several years in the making! - The Mk1 Golf Owners Club

if you can find a cheap mk1 valve it'll do you fine and its all plug n play. even if you go mk2 you still need the spring and bracket off the beam plus fixings off a mk1, though I guess all the mk2 stuff might go with some fabrication work…
