Police

First off, can you get caught for speeding, whilst going in the opposite direction on a dual carriageway, by one of those transit vans with the camera in the back? And it had to happen, i got busted on my mini moto last nite, managed to get to keep it but may have an asbo, these two are not related before anyone asks by the way.

I dont think you can get caught going the other way - would have thought the armco would be in the way apart from anything else!

Wills, probably not the cameras were aimed at cars on the other side.
What speed where you doing? The Police normally turn a blind eye to anything under 80 mph on the motorway or 70mph on a dual carrageway(according to the weekend press).

Im not too proud to admit this but i was probably doing about, 90, on a dual carriageway which is designed to be a 50. I really do need to sell this car i think, its too easy to do silly speeds in no time and think nothing of it.

After many recent encounters with the police(Scottish traffic)they have said to me that they accept 85mph up to 90 is a tug and warning and anything over(i got caught doing 91.5 but that was vascar average :dontknow: )is a ticket job.
But being the van i dont know there cut of points.

As for the Mini moto, i have no sympathy with you mate if you was out on the street with it,too many people are buying these cheap chinese imports and flying about the street on them, basically accidents waiting to happen.
I raced these for 9 years in the Scottish and British championships and know what can happen when you come off,let alone bounce into a kerb or oncoming vehicle 8O
Stick to car parks or look up http://www.polini.co.uk for details of race meetings etc.
Sorry Rant over

Aren't most car parks private property? If so, they can't bust you for riding on Private property surely?!?!?

Well i dunno, i didn't really wanna push my luck getting all gobby just in case they took it away, it probably is private but we never had permission to be their and it was local residents who complained about the noise, so i just held my hands out and gonna wait and see what happens. Im more worried about the speeding to be honest, not a clever move i know.

Surely theres no way can you get a ticket on private property.

Speed restrictions only apply on public highways?

Not sure what the laws are? You might be able to be ticketed for causing danger or something?

Not sure about insurance though? Do I need to be insured to drive around sainsburys car park?

I think the law was changed a few years ago to cover places that have public access whether they are on private land or not. This means that you need insurance in pub and supermarket carparks, fields used for car boot sales etc

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

To answer Wills' first question….I have spoken to 'a reliable source' and he told me that he'd captured drivers while doing laser from a static point, across a dual carriageway with vehicles travelling away from him. The issue about car parks is that they are now deemed as public places, pub car parks, park and ride areas, shopping centres etc so the issue of insurance comes into the problem of riding around on mini motos, quads, scramblers etc. Drink drive laws also apply to those locations. Basically things that used to be treated as kids riding bikes etc, now get the ASBO treatment in a bid to stop the problems permanently.

Hope this helps.

PS…something I didn't know, did you know theat Gatsos can capture you driving towards you in daylight hours? I have been keeping the speed up thinking that they are for drivers going away from them

Yes, but I thought there was a big fuss a couple of years ago about Gatso's etc not photographing drivers head-on? Not sure why - either to do with privacy law or the Police being paranoid about being sued by drivers who have an accident becuase they just had a bright light flashed in their face? A friend of  mine is so confident that you cannot get caught on a static Gatso that he went through several head-on setting them off 8O , never received a letter or fine.
