It doesn't matter how you dress it up, I can't see a single reason to join to listen to the anal rants of all and sundry whom are all mechanics with 10 second cars!

looking through all you vast amount of posts and the quality of them I cant see one single reason why this club would want you as a member any way :D

Dont ask what your club can do for you, but what can you do for your club?

The other thing I don't understand about the club is that excludes the mk1 Jetta but embraces the Cabriolet and the Caddy.. when in reality the Jetta is closer in origin to the Golf than either of the aforementioned..

Please gents, don't feed the Troll.

addicted, can you explain why you think a Jetta is closer to a Golf than a Cabriolet? Would love to understand the rationale behind that gem…

Perhaps chronologically yes, but I can't think of anything else?

Shall we just stuff it and start talking about Sciroccos too? Just cos they share the same platform, doesn't make them the same car.

from memory and I'm sure someone will either quash it or confirm it

Jetta's like Cabbys start off as a mk1 golf shell, the cabby went off to Karman and had the work done there and became a cabby, whereas the jetta has the rabbit style front end with the different lights and wings but in jetta's you can see where the hatch has been chopped off and the boot grafted on..

So then, what about Caddy's they look the same???

Scirocco's dont actually look the same, but yes they ar eont he same platform too

Dont embrace the caddy yet, at the moment its just been Cabby's!!!

Ok I was under the impression that the Cabby was completely assembled by Karmann?

Construction methods aside though, surely the simple fact is that if it's badged as a golf, it's a golf?

I don't think anyone on the forums are anti-jetta or anti-caddy or anti-scirocco, the owners just tend not to come on here and post up a lot. There's a couple of caddy builds on the forum and nobody's gone all "torch and pitchforks" about it…

You can't cater for everything though…

The mk1 Jetta is built by VW, on a production line parallel with the golf line. It is a mk1 Golf shell with a boot literally welded on to the back of it, open the boot of a mk1 jetta and you will see the seam line right across the car where the boot is attached.
The other differences, as Lawsy stated, is the front panel and wings and the rear seat.
Other than that it shares everything with the Mk1 Golf we all love so much and therefore probably more than the cabriolet.. other than, and I suspect this means more to some people, the badge on the rear..

This is simple to solve if you use logic.
Its all to do with the Game of Golf.
You will get a Caddy on a Golf course but ive yet to see jet or a strong desert wind

If you don't mind me saying so you seem to be taking it a little bit personally mate, I'm sorry there's no forum for Jetta owners, but it doesn't change the fact that it simply isn't a golf. In origin maybe, but it's a different kind of car.

I humbly apologise for being so crass in daring to mention badging, but it's kinda the point.

There aren't any exclusionary policies on the forum, there's nothing stopping jetta owners coming on and posting questions that golf owners can probably help with.

In fact the consensus was, the last time this debate popped up with Caddies, that owners of other golf derivatives are more than welcome on the forum, though not on the club stand at shows. In fact they'd probably be warmly welcomed…

Just seems you're aiming your frustration at a general lack of resources for Jetta owners at this forum…

This is going way off topic!!  Nice read though so maybe someone can start it up in a new thread??

Back to the topic… what would make you part with ?15 to aid the sites running costs and event costs?

Post

I really don't see it how it reads that I'm taking it personally. I'm a mk1 Golf man, have been for nearly 25 years, the Jetta is only a recent addition to my collection and I must confess that until I bought it I was ignorant to how much of it is Golf.
Ben started this thread to ask what it would take for us non members to fork out ?15 to join, my point here is that embracing the Jetta is something that could possibly entice me and others to join.
My previous point (earlier in this thread) still stands :)

The primary aim of the club is succintly defined by the website URL. The club logo and other stuff follows from this. Of course Jettas and Caddys are welcome but the line was drawn somewhere, it has come up before and been discussed/voted on in the appropriate way (there is a thread about Jettas in club business) with no changes imminent. Any member is free to start up a poll in the club business area if they want to!

Personally I wanted Jettas in when I suggested it, but it was not taken up.

Uum what would entice me to get membership………………………

A useful welcome pack with all the info needed for selecting, buying, owning a Mk1.

Maybe a get you home kit do's and don'ts.

Vouchers for all there always a winner, one lucky member/ winner a year ?150 voucher to one of companies you advertise.

Tester kits I believe their are some cheap tricks you can do with certain papers! Feel free to laugh at that one if I am Wrong.

Anythink that is cheap to buy bulk does not weight much and you can bung in welcome pack.

Also Home page should have a nice photo of what you get in the pack!

entice the monkey………..

My appologies also if any thing I have posted has put any one off   , certainly not my intention, that's why I started another post with Why did you become a Member, to see just what was the reasons Members Paid.
Hopefully with that combined with this post then it will hopefully give you an Idea of direction.
