In saying that ive only managed to take the golf to 1 show in the last two years(pitiful i know)and have found it hard to get a conversation with anyone on a club stand whether this is down to not rolling up in a mk1 or not being known i couldnt say. I dont know whether id say unaproachable but its hard to get talking to peoples backs
At the end of the day we're all basically strangers at the end of a set of cables unless your lucky to hve pre-met but friendly meets would be a big bonus/incentive to join up

I know what you are saying there mate, i felt the same way at the first show i went to, but by the second i just waded in and made it clear that i was there, had to dodge a few backs to, but pre-arranging going to the show made it much easier
For the latter part of this year we havent really had a club stand at any shows as people havent come forward much too help, so myself and a few others have doen what we can, but we too go to the shows to walk around and 9 times out of 10 are walking round when someone visits the stand
Most now know me but if your ever ata show and see a big bloek with tatto's wearing either mk1 owners hoodie or a tee shirt/empi design hoodie with LAWSY on the back, dont be shy, come and say hello
Hopefuly next year things will be better.
Whereabouts are you located mate, we might have a local meet near you already?

the discounts for gsf etc are ok, but dont really apply to me i work at vw as parts manager, so get more of a discount with them!
as soon as my golf on the road to make use of the tax disc holder i will join!! i promise!
another thing is there is absolutely no one on here in my area!!
something which might be of a bonus to people tho is i can offer a 10% discount off VW?!
and you actually get someone on the phone who knows what the hell your going on about, and doesnt sigh when you say 1980 lol

One that really got my goat was signing up to one very well known VW magazine forum! The application has to be actioned by a mod before you can post. despite repeated emails, 3 Months later ive still not got an activation email! I cant ever imagine something like that that happening here, mk1 owners/admirers have too many manners! :wink:

purely for the fact that i'm involved with lots of different clubs
just a social butterfly attending all i can within the allowances of my salary - most of that goes on fixing the car!
i know it's only just over ?1 a motth and tbh its nothing compared to my fuel bills… so i guess maybe i should. just never really had a reason to pay it nor would i benefit greatly from it

We are (with the exception of a minority who appear cause bad feeling and go away again) all here for the mk1 golf which in my opinion makes us like minded. for some that may be enough reason to stump up ?15 a year, for others it may not. thats up to the individual.

I agree with Han, it is a bit of a harsh statement. You are going to get all sorts of folks in different clubs, I think you may get that sort of attitude elsewhere. Myself I don't have a 10 second car nor am I interested in one Either. Nor am I too mechanicly minded.
But I have read magazines with modded cars in them and can appreciate the work and engineering that's involved.
There is a modification section on this forum, but to be honest have never clicked on it.
I didn't need a reason to pay membership, but for the FREE Advice I was going to be given and to ME there is no such thing as a free lunch.
I am not sure how long a site would last without contributions and Membership fees.
Its all horses for courses.

No, its based loosely on a line from the film Too Fast too furious, where the guy is hard up and bets his own car on a drag race. Someone else says "you still owe me a 10 second car". Or something like that. ie 10 secs = 10.999 or quicker at the 1/4 mile.

Brakes, i can get cheaper from euro and fit myself, the only reason i would continue to have membership is to free entry to shows, the sticker packs i dont bother with as i dont like slapping them on my screens, only used the tax disc one.
For sale section, no one has ever bought a thing off me i have sold, i and give cheap prices, so tend not to do so anymore, but giving for free and what a responce :roll:
Anyway paying membership i feel is purely for the friends made, advice given that helps me continue to learn about how to's when i have issues with my car, and this is what i am very grateful for, this alone contributes for me paying my membership which i shall continue to do, even thou there are always some who say to me it's not a real mk1, makes me laugh really as when did a original mk1 come with a g60 or 20v, thats only gripe i have, but not a head bugging one, anyway thats my moan, i hope this helps
Very well put! my car is demanding every last penny out of my wallet on a weekly basis. Membership or replace very knackered tyre! uuumm.
I will have to remain a outsider for now, but one day I will have spare money, hoodies will offer to clean my car, my car will go a whole month with nowt needing doing!
