I remember that one, didn't the wheels stick out about too far because of the escort drivetrain or something?

Wonder what happened to it!

Cheers,

Drew.

i read that the cossie vibrated apart, to much metal removed, and to much power  for the car to cope with all the seams started to break open. so it was broke 4 spares. as for the tvr golf he shouldn't be driving his suspention is shot!!
but thats a tricky corner, did a track day there (me and my bro) and He span on the same corner, bloody scary in the passenger seat 8O

When I was int he loft, I suddenly thought that I haev all these mags going back over something like 16 years ,all with Golfs in. When I get another spare 5 mins, I might try and write some of the Reg numbers down for the MK1's and post 'em up to see if they are registered on here
Never know, might have some owners on here that did not knwo their car is famous !!

that would be a nice idea, X5 pea's car was a mag featured example, it would be nice to see if there are others and what sort of condition they're in now and if the mods survived the test of time

Why - it could be quick down at low speed and loose out at the top end. Different gear ratio could allow him to get quick 0-60's but not so hot qtr mile times due to gearing ?

Just 'cos a cars quick to 60 doesn;t mean its fast over a Qtr mile

Appreciate that mate, but if he has a low ratio box it is going to be of or similar to the 1600 5sp which is what I have, so would be pretty comparable, ratio wise.

If he had a 1800 box and had the power to pull 6 secs 0-60, then I would deffo expect a sub 16 sec qtr mile!

Just curious TBH. Plus he has stated "16 secs" - This must have been rounded up or down, which is bad as every.001 of a sec counts on the strip!

here u go
''I am running an 1800cc standard gear box (even though it has been
refurbished and diff pins replaced for nuts and bolts) bolted to a 2Lt
tall block from a 1990 Passat.

It goes like a rocket from a standing start but losses it at the top
end. As I don't really travel much over 100mph I get the big smiles when
Porsche Boxters and 911's struggle to leave me!

The engine has Karl Schmidt pistons, fast flow oil pump, baffled sump,
300degree Schrick cam with vernier pully, big valve head which is
polished, ported and flowed as is the inlet and exhaust manifold, Audi
100 throttle body, K&N filter with a drilled air box, massive oil
cooler! Think that just about covers the engine!!''

opinions please.
