Hi everyone
So I have decided to get my MK1 GTI restored by a specialist. I of course contacted Crazyquiff But they currently have an 18 month to 2 year waiting list - no doubt a sign of the quality work they produce. So I have started looking around for an alternative specialist, I am based in Berkshire but of course can travel a bit further afield.
so far I have found Deutsch Doktors, does anyone have any experience with them? I haven't really found anywhere else similar, has anyone get any recommendatio
The car is a Series 1 GT| so I want to find somewhere that knows their way around them.

Resto Shack has an excellent reputation and have done numerous Mk1's. Their waiting list may be as long as Crazyquiff's though, and I imagine it is hugely expensive.
You get what you pay for though.

How much work are you needing, are you looking at drive in and drive out all work done, or are you doing strip down and having bodywork done by others and rebuild by yourself?

I can highly recommend Rust Republic, Based on the edge of Sherwood Forest in Nottingham. Just up,there last weekend looking at the current cars they were working on. amazing work and prices reasonable I think . Get most work just by recommendation.

if its mechanical and engine etc then the guy iused recently would be a good bet, i dont think he does bodywork? - and might be too far - but I had mine tuned up recently at propper old school guys place in Harwarden just outside Chester. AB Garage 01244 537701 he sorted out a problem on mine in no-time, and knew his way around the GTI K-Jet injection system, stripped bits down and knew his onions. quoted me 2 hours to track down my problems and set up fueling and do a couple of rolling road runs - he spent just over 3 and a half hours but still only charged for 2 - real nice honest guy.
From what I could tell he specializes in classics and kit-cars , one-man-band kind of place with no website or advertising just word of mouth, I heard of him through a guy that had his Mini done there.
he had a row of customers engines he was doing up and a XR3I recommissioning going on while I was there so he is a busy guy I think- I had to wait 4 weeks for a slot.
