The mixture screw is inside a small metal tube which is next to the metering head. You have to use a long 3mm allen key to make adjustments.

ah thought so , but i had shine a light into the tube , didn't look like there's any allen key nut , anyway thanks i'll check on it again .

alright got it , i`ve so called turn the nut to a optimum point where when i pump the brakes , the revs doesn't drop like it use to , but not sure how's the performance and economy , since im high on CO , now can't smell the difference between lean or rich :banghead: , will monitor the plugs from time to time .

What I've done before, is to turn the mixture screw anticlockwise (weakens mixture) bit by bit until you can here that the exhaust and the engine sound is hunting, the revs will drop a little, once it hits this point turn the allen key clockwise until the hunting stops, then give it an extra quarter of a turn clockwise. It's not an exact science but it worked for me.

hmmm. tried this today. if i am harsh down and then up on the brake pedal, the revs do not drop on depressing the pedal but do a little blip up when i lift sharply off the pedal.

Hello guys!!

I am from Argentina and recently moved to Montenegro. I have just bought a golf mk1 1983 West Germany. 1.3 Petrol. Beautiful. It requires a lot of aesthetic work but it is in one piece and works great… Aside from a rich fuel problem.

I have superficially (w/o dismantling it) cleaned the carburetor (with a carb cleaner spay). I have cleaned the whole interior of the air filter case, replaced the air filter and removed the sparkplugs to inspect and clean.

Overall it works ok when warm but sometimes revs stall and it doesn't usually start easily.

When I press the throttle not-progressively, it chokes and stalls. there is significant black smoke when this happens… So all points out to a rich mixture. Right?

What can you recommend to me? :)

Thank you very much!!!

Kind regards,
Pablo.
