My son bought this 1.8 GTI cab with basic cis as a non runner and i'm helping him get it up together. A little tlc and we now have it running fairly well but could be better
I've checked the AAV and it is open when cold, just a small hole in the discs, and the disc closes over when the element is powered which is correct.
However, when the discs are closed air can still pass through the valve which I don't think is correct ?
I suspect maybe some sludge build up between them, and have tried carb cleaner and compressed air but to no avail.
Has any one succeeded in splitting one of these and more importantly getting it back together again ? Or any other suggestions ?
Thank for any help
Regards Gordon

I now have it submerged and will see if that helps
There is an adjustment via an 8mm nut on the fixed shutter which sets the size of the aperture.
I hope this works, because its otherwise in good working order.
I will report later.

Thanks Smudger,
The AAV is only the first part in a larger puzzle, i'm sure there will be plenty of other questions for the knowledgeable.
K-jet revival looks like it may be an arduous process

I have split these open by grinding the 'folded' lip that holds the two parts together and araldite them back together when finished. Managed to get it airtight when the valve was closed and is still working over 2 years later.
Def worth a shot.

Hi Gav
Recon I'll give it a go as I have nothing to lose except for an AAV that dosen't work
I've tried soaking it and more cleaning but its still passing.
So, out with the grinder……..
