Rear wiper woes

I have checked the rear wiper and has full power. Wash wipe works fine but the wiper isn't. I have tried a new #72 relay but nothing. Is it possible that it can only use a #20 relay? If I bridge the wires in the fusebox it works okay.
Gotta love those electrics! Any ideas?

check the wires in the rubber boot between tailgate and body, and check you have a good earth feed.
does the rear wipe relay click when you press the stalk?

Rubjonny, yes it does click and I have full voltage at the motor. Motor works when I bridge at the fusebox. Only other thing I considered is a faulty relay? I have checked the earth for continuity and it seems fine.
Cheers
