usually when boosting over 10 psi its recommended,i never got round to it and im running 11 psi boost,it will help but also the added lag of the turbo pressurising the boost hoses and an intercooler needxs to be taken into account, the longer the run the more air needed to fill it
i will intercool the PD

My engine is standard from a cltd I have the original  intercooler it came with on mine , was adviced to use a front mounted if upgraded

Mk1 2l TSR G60.  .getting. There twice as fast

Mk1 lhd diesel…….getting. There for half the cost

i was looking at this one intercooler

twin exit on one side, that way it will avoid the battery

but the size seem big

got that saved in my watch list

intercooling cant hurt,if i were going to do my AAZ i would wind the fuel up a little to aid any losses

Driven quite a few variations of Turbo Diesels and the TDi'd same engine not just VW ones over the years and there is a noticable difference, partcuarly if you front mount the intercooler (cooler, denser compressed air makes for better combustion than hotter air).  Routing the pipes to the front of the MK1 is a pain, best to mount the intercooler then get a firm to make the pipes to suit, also ideally to get an intercooler to sit infront of the radiator but behind the grill, you need one that is 60mm wide or less unless your happy to make brakets to sit the radiator further back or cut into the brace below the bonnet lock

I'm running a intercooler on my gtd!! And tbh if nothing else it just looks cool as hell though the grille…

Pictures to prove…

Doesn't make a massive difference on turbo lag but I'm am running on hell of a down pipe, currently running 9psi but I've made the hole set up to run 20psi but my gf is using it as a daily at the moment!! Hahaha

FIT A FRONT MOUNT! It's a ballache but well worth it. Not only makes your car faster, but lowers cylinder temperatures and makes your car run loads better :).

However don't go for that twin pass one. Although it'll make routing easier and has a big surface area to make all your boost nice and cold. Because it's a twin pass the cross sectional area the air has to flow through is tiny! And it has to travel LOADS further so not only will you loose precious psi but it will lag LOTS, when you're finally on high boost though it'll be a big improvement.

Cool air is much better for combustion. I believe that adding an itercooler also helps to lower cylinder temps and exhaust gas temps.

It is worth monitoring your EGTs with the TD engines especially if you have tweeked the fueling as this can send them through the roof.

I've not done an egt gauge or an ic but have researched it thoroughly for the future. I'm only running standard boost and a GTD LDA pin on my aaz at the mo
