83 driver callipers!! ??

Post

Hi all, I've already types this out once and lost it so il keep it snappy!

83 1.3 driver, need new calliper for ns as the piston is sized, my mechanic can't source one anywhere apart from a custom shop that will make one up (for a price)!! Apparently a rare part?? I'm baffled as its nothing special and it still seems to be impossible to get hold of!

Running the standard square pads and 239x10 discs!

My question is, does anyone know where I can get hold one? Or is there a suitable equivalent that will work with my discs?

Being pressured on time as this is my only car and need it for work! Thanks -Fresh

pair there mate, or vw11 calipers (off gti etc) are a good easy upgrade with the carriers and vented discs

for the vwii you'll need the mk1 1.5-1.8 carriers as well dont forget. you can use them with solid discs but i would go for vented gti discs unless you're really attached to those discs you bought (any scope for exchange?)

Cant you just buy a used caliper? most people upgrade to vw2 calipers (I did) so im sure you could pick up one for next to nothing!  :)

I noticed on my dads '99 polo 6n it uses vw11 calipers but look like newer versions, always wondered if these will fit the same if you might know?

probably a lot easier to find too

yeah our 2001 polo has them too, they're the same except iirc they have banjo type flexi lines? if so mk3 golf post-96 288 type pipes will probably fit, if not the polo/lupo/seat ones

i 2nd the upgrade option,

i got new disks ,pads ,calipers and second hand carriers for about £100

far better braking and less hassle in the long run, i was forever trying to free off those bloody pads up on the runners on the old calipers.

stick the disks on ebay maybe?

i pressed the little red button
