Description:

With a heavy heart I am putting my mk1 for sale.

Rare is overly used to describe classic VW's but I'm confident you never have an opportunity to purchase a car in this condition, with similar mileage and history.

The car has covered a documented 20,634 from new. She has the most extensive history of any car I've seen. I am the 3rd owner, the first two were members of the same family. I knew this car when I was a child and always had a soft spot for it. I purchased her in 2006, the first time the car had changed ownership since 1980!

The basic spec:

1977 Golf N
3 door
Riyad yellow
originally a 1.1 4 speed box

I have owned since 2006. Using it as a third car in the summer. I made a few modifications (all reversible with original parts included in the sale) to add to usability. She has sported a few different sets of wheels including polished p-slots and gotti split's.

Becker Pro CD (eom to Porsche and Ferrari etc)
Custom shelf under dash to house speakers (wasn't going to cut the door cards!)
Cobra Cat one alarm and immobiliser with remote drivers door locking
12v socket to charge phone etc
Porsche leather steering wheel
A few mooneyes parts and scorpion gear knob
Coilovers to remove some wallow and allow height adjustment
Audi 80 256mm front brakes (currently off as refurbed)
Weber single carb

I have covered a only covered a few thousand miles. In 2008, unsurprisingly after 30 years of deterioration seals in the engine needed replacing. I decided on a 1.3 replacement engine to avoid modifying the mounts for a big block. I was lucky to source a rebuilt 1300 on bike carbs, this I combined with a low miles later polo 5 speed box. A fair bit was spent on items including a new clutch and radiator. I also imported some rare Gotti splits from France to replace the existing ones. These where fully refurbed and owe me over £1000. Having fitted the engine I started working away and met my now wife, which is when things came to a halt!

Since then she has been dry stored. The engine needs the final connections and a 5 speed gear linkage fitting and the car re-commissioning.

The car was completely undersealed from new (receipt provided), this explains the condition, together with the care and low miles. Structurally she is solid in all of the usual places such as the bottom of the screen and spare wheel well. There are a few rust spots mainly on the front wings but other than that the body is exceptional. The interior again had seat covers fitted from new, protecting the staggering time warp condition, dog tooth check low backs. I still have the original number plates in addition to touches such as the original dealers sticker and tax disc holder demonstrating the originality.

Enough words now for some pics,

Why sell? I promised myself I would never let her go. She has been off the road for a few years now and family life, working away, an Edition 30 and MK7 GTD impact on the time I am able to invest in her. I feel the time is right to give someone else the opportunity.

I have not shown this car so no scene tax  Winking face . I did take to one edition38 show and a meet at Harewood house. In the car park she got allot of attention.

Priced at £7500 for an appreciating classic. This includes the Gotti's, original engine and box, all of the original parts together with spares I've collected over the years. I'm based in Newcastle upon Tyne these days, obviously the car would need to be collect via a trailer. I'm in no rush to sell however i don't think she'll hang around.

Thanks for taking the time to read, Ashley
