Description:
My Dad has owned the Golf since 1982, first as his company car and then as his own. He is no longer driving so he has asked me to help him sell it.
Here is a rundown of what I know about it:
The car is a 1980 model and was originally left hand drive. It was imported by V.A.G Ltd in London and converted the right hand drive to use as a demonstrator. I have a letter from them authenticating this.
V.A.G Ltd wanted a 5 speed gearbox model and right hand drive ones were not available at that time. They fitted the 4 headlamp system and also the ATS Teledial wheels which gave a slightly wider track. The work took some time so the car was not registered in the UK until 16th April 1981.

Notes
70,000 miles only with all MOT's
My dad has owned since 1982
Very comprehensive history file
Very good tyres all around
Very clean engine bay
Very clean and tidy interior, no rips, tears or damage

The Not So Good Stuff
The rev counter does not work
The trip meter fails intermittently
Very small dent in tail gate (see photo)
Paintwork in boot area is a bit untidy (see photo)
The sunroof is sealed shut as it leaked at some point (see photo)

The car is in very good order and has never been restored. I drove it this week for the first time since my Dad taught me to drive in it in 1984! It still goes really well and was just as much fun as I remembered. It has a fresh MOT which it went through without a problem.
I am asking for sensible offers on the owner’s club forum as I think this is where it will find the right home and have set a starting price at £8000 and shall see where we end up. The car is not restored so is not perfect but is a rare optionally to get an early MK1 GTI with a very interesting pedigree that is ready to enjoy.
