What did you do to your Mk1 Golf Today ?

Been busy last couple days making a jig assembly  for the new rear window frames I've had made for the Cabbies, common issue now a day's when fitting new roofs. Often rust away and that's why you see some without rear window.  
Turned out well the jig is to compress the insert back into the new frame and once bonded they're rock solid. Even fitted the glass and seal on the trial frame.
Quite pleased with it, just a little bit of fettling to go.

Drove out to Leeds vw festival.. picked up some new/old rear lights.

Washed and polished for the local carnival tomorrow. Then decided to pick the wife up from central Birmingham in it

Oh nifty….. nifty….., What I found to be a help is itty bitty number 2 or 4 sheet metal screws…on the inside edge.

I get you Briano1234 there's a tiny bit of play to allow frame in and out. Those clamps were dirt cheap from China. I thought they'd be junk but I was surprised how good they were and can be adjusted pressure and position wise. I will place a bar over the insert to spread the pressure out when I re fit the inserts. This cost less than $20.00 your money about £15.00.

I may need to invest in a few for my Smoker…. I usually use foil tape to seal it whilst I smoke various Pig Meats.

Never thought of those…. Gee thanks for the tip for good eating….

Briano1234  there is a hack using the clamps off a paint can to make similar ones. Can't do that hack over here as we don't have that can. It was on youtube worth looking for maybe?

Took mine to a car show in Oxford. 

I was the only Mk1.

And all because the lady loves a new head unit, new electric aerial, new speakers, new speaker wires and new sound proofing…

Not exciting just yet. The plan is to repair the loom, using spares from sporttrucker's spares. Hopefully that works and caster can be back on the road. If not then the exciting bit would be a replant with something  like 1.8/ 2.0 mk4 lump. (Although not what my new mk4 is for..its too good to break. At 1 other owner and 24000k miles full history..thats going to lincoln vw.today for it's 3rd cam belt rather than miles it's an age change. Im hoping for some special treatment for having an original car sold by lincoln vw in 1999, live in hope.)

We'll after nearly 6 years of ownership my wife dicided she wanted to drive my Mk1. 🤔

Now she's in love with my Mk6 DSG, TSI 7 speed, Highline etc, etc so I was a little nervous to say the least but with top down we headed for Bratislava yesterday for lunch! 🙏

We had a nice lunch, temperature just over 30 degrees and headed back home. She drove the car perfectly and when she turned off the engine she said "This car is really fun to drive, can I drive it more often?"

Well obviously at the AGM she must have got the bug!

But here's the kicker, she believes that all cars I own have self filling fuel tanks, they clean themselves and all servicing and maintenance is free of charge! 😕😂

Don't you just love it. 👍🏼

It must be love to let her loose in the cabby. Well done you can buy another mk1 for the wife and have 2 money pits. Haha.

1995 Pissan Nathfinder son's
2003 Oldsmobile wife and anyone in the family that needs it…

I used to have 3 others that the daughters owned, but as they either got married or bought their own I am now down to 4 instead of 7..

Tried my hand at some vinyl wrap…. Think it turned out pretty damned good…  Rather subtle I think…
