Rough Price MK1 GTI is it worth it

Offered MK1 GTi is it worth the price?

Morning everyone, quick question.

Currently have a MK1 Clipper which I have for sale, however been offered a 1982/83 MK1 Gti for around 2k.

Car needs some work had Mot but just run out in August, the car is in bits at the moment as the person who had it was going to get it repsrayed. I believe everything is there other than head liner however…..the engine and gear box have been left in the garden for a few weeks and I think it will need some welding.

It's also had a bad respray black at some point.

The prices are all over at the moment,  just wanted to get some thoughts on price

Cheers

Any chance you have pics? A lot of people here have a keen eye for the little details...

If it’s in bits and you need to weld, respray, but some bits and pt it back on the road in a fair condition I would allow 4-5k spend unless you can do a good job of painting and welding yourself.

Factor in the 2k for yours and that puts you 6-7k in the hole.  Maybe break even are tiny profit on a summer time sale. However if you hold onto it as a tin top with no sunroof then it may well rise faster but n value than the clipper.

Looks like it had a sunroof when it was white….

DVLA still list it as white.

You can search MOT history and see what it failed on before….

Why have they stripped it and not finished it?

Always a risk with a car in boxes as you never really know if you have all the bits and what does not work or worked before….

Most car look good in pictures and there's no pictures of underneath the car so really hard to say a value, you really need to see the car as feel around for crusty metal.

As far as I'm aware he stripped it as he was going to get it resprayed. Unfortunately he has had some personal issues so that's why he has to sell.

Looked at the previous mots and failed badly on corrosion a number of years ago but then passed so I think the pictures with it stripped down must of been when the work was done to get it through the mot.

Previously passed mot August 2015 and August 17 with some advisory's.

Worst case scenario what's a proper rotten one worth and one in need of general refurb?

Not looking to get on the road ASAP more of a case of something to work on over the next few years as don't want to pump more money into the clipper as not really what I want.

Cheers for the help

There is your answer.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Anywhere from 1-2k really.

It's a pretty much unknown. There's work to do and paint to apply plus other stuff will come up.
