Hi Tomi

Carl chortle on here is your man to talk to. He's not the closest to you so may not travel - I don't know - but definitely send him a message and have a chat.

Having had a roof done by him I can understand why a. some companies wont touch these now and b. why some companies wont do it right! He did a cracking job on mine ;)

These are the people I bought the hood from - http://www.car-hood.co.uk/golf-mk12-h1102

Mohair is much nicer than vinyl and worth the extra money, although if it's a daily driver and not garaged I would probably go for vinyl as the mohair can be a pain to keep clean.

Whatever you end up doing, replace the foam seals, the side tension cables and the rear tension cable - all will be past it.

Plus make sure you have new loops for the tonneau cover to fit in and if you don't use Chortle to fit it, make sure who does knows where to position them (kind of inline with the rear corner of the car) as you see a lot in the wrong place.

Finally, be prepared for other items, such as it will be quite likely that your rear window frame could be rotten and will need repair/replacing.

Don't the taps fit in line with the hooks of the roof cover? Mine are further in than those in the pictures as I don't think I could fit and hook down the rear of the my cover if they was there?

I'm pretty sure the vinyl roof on my Cabrio is still the original factory fit. The tabs are inset about another 1cm from the pic above.

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Ah ok, these do line up with the hooks on the tonneau cover ok. I wonder if the hooks moved on later cars? I know early tonneaus didn't have as many popper clips on them?

Never seen the tabs there before, always inboard. Early roofs do not have the tabs and the cover is a different fitting.

That's odd. If they were inboard they wouldn't have lined up with the tonneau hooks  O_o
