It's just a minefield out there for someone looking to buy, some dealers stick the Original word in and think it justifies a high price, but they just seem to stick around for ages.  There is a Silver Campaign doing the rounds at the moment advertised as Original Paint, but only if VW let it out of the factory with a different shade of paint on the drivers door!

The real nice justifiable  price ones seem to be sold only by private individuals with the exception of Hairyarse as his seem very reasonable for the amount of work that goes in prior to sale, not come across one of his I wouldn't want in my garage if I had the space.

I told you Neil - it's only worth a couple of hundred, but I'll take it off your hands for a bag of sand

I'm reluctant to comment on this one now because I will be accused of bringing the value of MK1's of this type down and discouraging Mk1 owners from joining the Club and becoming paid members!

Well I won't - I've already done it!

Stripes are upside down and the one on the hatch is wrong as it goes round the corner.

Well at least this one appears to be an honest car with an honest appraisal from the auction house.

Mind you the photographer didn't want to get to close or take to many.

But at least you can see it with your own eyes if you really want it.

Interesting to see what it goes for!

Good grief or words to that effect!  :o

Well I did say the fact that it's at one of the top Auction Houses, at that location and with the news just days before at Montague passing away (not that it was his) it might go for strong money.

But I didn't see that coming!  O_o

You will need to check the following for a genuine 16S:
- Type FP gearbox with reinforced syncros on 2nd, 3rd and 5th gears and 4,17 final drive
- VIN plate with Type 17 (not 17EG2, etc)
- Production sticker showing option code 733 for 16S model and FP gearbox code

Anything else will be aftermarket conversion.
