At some point in the golfs life it had a rear panel fitted and the sticker has gone, is there any websites to find out the spec of my car from the vin number?

Hi,
if you write to www. history@volkswagen.de you normally will get the the basic data of your VW.
The only thing you need is a confirmation of ownership like a purchase contract or vehicle documents.
You will get an answer per mail for free.
Only the certificate is 50€
Hope this helps.
regards, Sven

Here's a long shot… but a free one.
On occasion the build sheet/work instructions ("arbeitsanweisung") can still be found under the dash. Then it's just a matter of looking up codes.
