It's a lunch order from the Wolfsburg factory  ;)

Can't see anything there that obviously ties it to the vehicle (vin etc), may be a docket from the assembly line there's often bins of components for assembly at certain points one the line??? Or it could be the carpet manufacturers docket, who knows?

If I've read it correctly (Google translate!) and assuming his information is right the 'Kenn-nr' means the following'…

'The first two digits indicate the week of production and the third digit the day of the week. The last four digits are the serial number for that production day.

Your slip would therefore refer to a vehicle made on the 5th day of the 10th week and the production number allocated it for that particular day was 0864.

You'd need to know the year of production and what day the beginning of the week was calculated from to work out the exact date of manufacture.

The digits used for the 'Kenn-nr' don't seem to reflect the chassis number unfortunately.

It looks like the other numbers may refer to the equipment fitted at the factory… Here's a literal translation from his site via Google.

The equipment codes

In addition to the standard equipment , the Golf has a factory already , the customer can not individually upgrade their vehicle . Each of these extras has got its own code number. This code number is on page 4 of the letter and on the sticker that sticks in the trunk. Who wants to know when he purchased used golf equipment items which have been ordered by the original owner as extras , must to decipher the equipment codes .

The codes I found in the spare parts catalog of VW. Unfortunately missing a few numbers. Has VW over time have forgotten myself .

Within the nine -year construction of the Golf 1 , the features have changed several times. Some things she gave away only at the end than at the beginning of the construction period , and others. If an extra is not occupied by an equipment code , the extra is attached either in series or later .

The prefixed letter "M " and "S " stand for more facilities and special equipment and are not indicated in the codes in the car.

Do you have either the boot sticker or the plate attached to one of the two uprights on the slam panel positioned front centre of the radiator, behind the grille? The number you're after is on both.

The 'Kenn-nr.' on your slip seems to match the format of the serial number on both of the above even it is written without the gaps on the VIN plate itself.

It sounds like most vehicles would have had that slip tucked up behind the glove box but unfortunately if mines still there I've no way of getting to it at the moment to double check for you.

thanks alot i really appreciate all of this, where do i start,

the car has had front and rear panels replaced

the boot sticker, i made the body shop cut this out of the metal so they dont damage the sticker but by the time i went to collect it they lost it  :ocf_emoticons__BangHead: :ocf_emoticons__BangHead: :ocf_emoti
cons__BangHead:they showed me the rear panel with a hole in it, great, thanks

the front panel had been replaced once before i got the car also so doubt it would have been there

this piece of paper i decided to save that i found years ago could be the only way to obtain the information

Oh that sucks they lost the sticker, esp. after cutting it out for you!

Just seeing this thread now…

Looks like bacardi is right…

I knew I posted about it some time before  :P  :P  Have a look here…

http://www.golfgtisportline.com/index.php/2012/03/my-sportlines-build-date/

Serial number matches up to my build date. VW should be able to confirm that for you if you requested the birth certificate.

Cheers Hugh.

The 'Kenn-nr' on your carpet slip 10 5 0864 would read as the 10th week 5th day and 864 off the production line.

Serial number to your plate 1050864. There you go. Is that right???  :ninja:

Cheers Hugh.

yup, the production date according to vw is 14 march 1983,

reeeesult!

also the german abbreviation for lfd-nr is serial number, so i presume the code number under the vw badge on the vin tag will be 1731

Thats my vin sorted!

thanks all for your help.

next thing to work out is the two codes on the same line next to the serial number on the boot sticker as im going to get one of these made too

problem now is do i put the original engine number on the vin tag or do i put the engine number for the g60 engine that currently sits in the bay  O_o  O_o
