Impulse buying for your mk1...

Post

Gone a bit mad over the last month or so… Bagged myself a genuine tonneau cover, original wheels, mint condition grill and this original vw headunit! Love my radio I've already got but couldn't turn down a pukka one! Anyone else treating their mk1's for this summer?  image.png image.png image.png image.png image.png

Lots of bits that might end up until next winter, clutch, brake discs and pads, sump windage tray, better cam and vernier pulley, silicone hoses, new radiator and expansion tank. And maybe some new wheels and speedo cable.

Impulse buying makes my bank hate me.

Love the radio you have got your hands on.

Lol now its my daily and have more time to spend with her, I got her a new set of heels, BBS style, hope to get her looking good for summer, good is excellent as she was a looking quite rough, has anyone noticed that when you begin to drive a car more often than usual, all gremlins appear lol close the door today and bash went the window breaking the window guide, then the sunroof decided I didn't want to close, well anything that appears will need to be sorted so still all good

I vouch for a new radiator mine burst on me in traffic a couple of years ago  I've done the whole cooling system since, pump & thermostat rad, expansion tank and all plastic flanges and properly flushed out all the gunk for piece of mind. Cheers I'm really happy with the radio bagged it £40 posted fully working

I too am hoping to get a tonneau and a Gamma 3 head unit for mine. However the new fuel tank, rear brake refurb kit and exhaust downpipe need to be sorted with the wax oiling which scuppered those plans……!

I use my car almost everyday and think it works well due to that. Any old moving parts and electrics don't like being sat idle in a country damp 80% of the time I've found!

They are great finishing touches imo, I need to give the underside of mine a good bit of treatment there's no body corrosion but I've noticed some brake lines corroding which I might have to tackle soon. Have you already waxoiled yours or are going to? A thread on that would be great!

I'm getting the garage to do it while everything comes off for the new fuel tank to be fitted. It was a case of "well that's coming off so I may as well do that too!". Unfortunately that means it's going to cost more but probably the only time I'll have to go this far. Will probably paint the original exhaust while it's off too. It'll be done in May after payday!

Makes perfect sense will get it places you never would be able to without stripping it down, I gave my rear section a quick paint was happy with the difference image.jpeg image.jpeg

Looks much better! I remember doing something similar with a Peugeot 205 CTI back box a couple of years ago. Managed to polish up the tailpipe but rest needs painting up.

Another finishing touch I'll be doing is fitting a selection of 1993-era cassettes in the Fischer cassette rack in the centre console! It's a bit mad I know…….!
