GTI Engineering

Hi all, just bought an 87 GTI cabriolet and it has a GTI Engineering plaque on. It's going to be a little project as it needs a fair bit doing to it but I don't think the seller new what he had. What are these worth these days. I'll post some pictures as soon as I get it out in the day but be warned its PINK (not staying pink though) are there any other things to look out for to make sure it's not just a plaque :)

I know it's bad but that will change! And until it does its staying hidden in the garage :)
For the price I got the car I could suffer the drive home with the car on a flat bed :-D

Also what would people recommend for upgrades or leave as is if its a genuine GTI Engineering upgrade? was originally planning to have it ported and polished, Kent cam vernier pulley etc…
I still be pulling the engine out to clean the engine bay but looking for advice on the engine?

Depending on WHAT GTI Engineering have done to the car it will already be ported, polished and cammed up better than most achieve these days.. it may also be bigger than 1.8 as that was a popular route for GTI Engineering to take.

I'm afraid though, that without the paperwork then as far as value is concerned that plaque won't really alter the value..

The Plus Pack was the following for the 1.8. Gave around 130hp. Assuming the engine matches the plate.

Gasflowed cylinder head,
Re-profiled inlet and exhaust valve throats,
Gasflowed inlet and exhaust manifold,
40mm inlet valves with improved under-head profiles,
35mm exhaust valves with improved under-head profiles,
Selected valve springs,
Remapped electronic control unit (E.C.U.) on vehicles fitted with electronic engine management.

Thanks for the replies, if it is what it says it is then i would be best to clean it up but leave the internals as is. it starts no problem considering its been sat for 12 months and ticks over brilliant.
