Anyone own a VW/Audi with a number plate ending in TYE

Post

Looking to find out which dealer would of issued a plate ending in these three letters. Have been on a website that says that TYE was registered in Central London but obviously there were lots of VW dealers in this area. The answer could be found in service books or original number plates. Any help much appreciated

I only have one TYE reg Campaign on my register list from the early days.
Drew Wager purchased A419 TYE from Kingswood Volkswagen Maidstone.
This is the best I can do at the moment at this time, as I have just kickstarted
my Campaign project I started way back in 2002.
You will get the original dealer to the above car from the first Reg documents
issued by our friends at the DVLA.
                 Hope this helps.

Mine says:
Declared new at first registration in Great Britain by manufacturer/sole import concessionaire.
What does this mean?

Have only came across this once before. Manufacturer/sole import concessionaire would be
Volkswagen were the first owners.
TYE could have been a press car or for tests, could maybe used by the sales dept.
The first time I saw a Campaign was at the Pirelli factory Carlisle where I worked.
This car was owned by Volkswagen & used as a test car.
            Hope this helps.
                  Kind regards.

Do you have the blue owners manual  folder's ? There's usually a leaflet with a list of dealer's , maybe help you trace it if vw Milton Keynes or DVLA can't help

Think there was about 20 dealership's around London , and yours would be central London , so process of illumination .
If you don't have the authorised dealer leaflet I can message you the garage numbers (at 1982)

Its only the last two letters YE that really matter. Maybe if you broadened your search to asking just for the last 2 letters you may get a better response. At the end of the day if you can't find out then who can ever question if its right or not?
Press cars tended to have Northampton plates on them.
There's only one car with YE plate on the register and thats on a Q plate which doesn't help either.
Long shot but have you done searches on number plates close to yours on regarchive Someone may have registered something close on there and if so you can leave a comment they might come back to you. Would need to be a VW or Audi though. A long shot though!

I was always lead to believe the statement, 'Declared new at first registration in Great Britain by manufacturer/sole import concessionaire.', simply meant the car had been brought new into the UK through official channels, either by the maker (Volkswagen themselves in this case) or their officially appointed representative (VW GB) for onward retail sale to the public.

'Grey Imports', - New vehicles imported privately by individuals or through non-VW channels had to first be registered abroad then re-registered in the UK… the log book would instead have a statement to the effect, "Previously registered and/or used outside the UK prior to first registration in the UK" to differentiate between the two.

I believe all cars registered here first have this written on the first registration document. I have a copy of the 1st reg document but it doesn't say in the service history book who supplied it. The first company who owned the car are now out of business so I can't even ask them
