Stuff I use in both my cars.
Coolant if you have blue coolant in the car ready. 5l is just enough.

Gearbox oil. 2l is plenty.

Change the blue antifreeze every 2 years to stop corrosion.
Is the car on the road already or a barn find?

Cambelts are 6 years or 60,000 miles then change it as not that expensive to replace.
Take the rear drums off and check the brake wheel cyinders for any leaking, peel back the rubber cover and check underneath, may be worth changing them for new?
There is 2 types of wheel cylinder depending on what year the car is and where the valves are to reduce braking pressure to the rear.
Get 4 new tyres if using the ones on the car, 8 year old tyres go hard and crack and as the tyres are the only thing touching the road it's best not to risk it.
Good year efficient grip performance are £48.14 each fitted depending on what size wheels you have on the car.
Standard 14 wheels.

New fuel filter is a good idea, 2 years 20,000 miles is the recomended life.
Have a good look in the fuel tank and fuel filler neck, petrol goes off after about 1 year so suck out as much old petrol as you can and stick in some fresh super unleaded.
When starting the car for the 1st time leave the rotor arm off so the engine just spins over for a minute to get the oil pressure up before fitting the rotor arm and starting the car.

Check the engine runs before changing the cam belt and tensioner, if it does not start after changing the cambelt you know something has moved.

Oil filters it's best to use genuine VW or Mann filters both are about £4 I would not use any other make.
If you can price up TPS for genuine oil filter and Quantum synta oil is also the stuff VW would use.
10w 40 semi synthetic.
Link to place with sells the oil and vw filters to compare price.

Tensioner.

Have a very good look at the stud which the tensioner fixes on, if rusty change it for a new one as you don't what that to shear off. I think you will need to go to VW to get a new one?

Alternator belt is 950x10 if you dont have power steering or air conditioning (very unlikely for UK car)
Don't forget a new dissy cap, rotor arm and HT leads again Bosch or Breu are the makes to go for, I change mine every 2 years or 20,000 miles in my daily car Mk1 Golf, I leave it a bit longer in the Mk1 Scirocco as it's a weekend car.
