Do i buy?

Heya need some advice from you guys as you probably know a lot more about Mk1’s than I do! The pictures below are the possible Mk1 I might buy off my work mate. However as you can see it’s fairly rusty… I already own a classic bug, but its pretty structurally sound. He’s asking £1500 for it and he will pay for any work to get it pass its MOT. He’s Already welded the O/S inner arch (as apparently they rot easily on the struts) and he’s going to under-seal the whole car, and patch up some more parts at the rear. Im not too bothered about the wing as I’d spend some money on all new arch and get a whole re-spray.

Rust can be pretty much be anywhere on these cars.

What you see is probably only 30% of what is there.

You don't usually get a lot of Mk1 for £1500 these days so be prepared for a project.

Make sure you take it to an MOT station you trust, not where he gets his done, and make sure its structurally sound or you could be wasting money on a repaint if the shell is too mouldy.
Covering in underseal could be seen as a way of hiding future problems.

Good Luck!

What model and spec is the car?

As for 'Under-seal' :o make sure you've gone over the underside with a fine tooth comb before he does it.
That stuff although good to have can cover up just about any problem, for a while!
