the original mk1 pipes are pretty different especially at the front end as they hook under the oil filter not over it as per the mk3 golf pipe
edit: pretty sure your original pipe is an abf one, the retaining bracket to the side of the head is further back than the 8v ones
edit2: aha, looked in the link. his problem was that the ABF pipe is NLA, and the 8v ones are indeed pretty much the same. He would have been better off with a 2E code pipe as it doesnt have the extra take off on the back like the AGG one has (its for the throttle body coolant connection)
